Fortune Cookies

I just got back to the office after having lunch with some colleagues at Pei Wei and here’s what my fortune cookie said:

Fortune Cookie

I think this is a keeper :) Even my lucky number 13 is in it! I have to check whether my wife’s lucky number is there too.

13 is my husband's lucky number, too! One day when we were deciding whether or not to start the adoption process, we went out for Chinese. I held up my unopened fortune cookie and said, "I want this to say, 'Go to Ukraine!'" I opened it and it read, "You will travel far and wide." I smiled and yelled, "Close enough!" Blessings!

Hi there! Usually fortune cookies have really cheese messages but suprisingly, this one fit pretty well :) I subscribed to your blog and will read up on your adventure in my little spare time. Good luck and thanks for dropping in!

Hi,

I just found your blog. When I saw the first post about Pei Wei, I thought, they must live near us. Come to find out you do! Actually, you live nearer our friends who adopted from the same orphanage we did almost a year ago. We live in N. Houston. We adopted a 12yo, who turns 13 tomorrow. She will be home a year in April and we are starting again!

Hi June! That's so funny. Someone else actually wrote a comment in another post and they have friends that live in the same community as us (they recognized the house styles!). The world isn't as large as it seems when you fly :)

Congratulations and Happy Birthday to the young lady! Did you adopt through an agency or independently? We're now waiting for our dossier to be submitted in April

Hi Dave,

Thanks! She is very excited about celebrating her first birthday here with us. She said she's never had a birthday cake all her own. They celebrate all the birthdays for the month at the orphanage, but not individually.

We used an agency for our daughter, but we are starting again and going independent this time.

That's great to hear. Things that sound so "normal" for most of us turn out to be such a special event. There are so many opportunities for bonding!

This is a first for us and we're doing it independently too. From what we've read, there's not a whole lot of difference once you get to Ukraine as you still use facilitators and translators from in-country. So far we're happy with how things are going. Good luck on your journey!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the well wishes. Same to you.

You are right. No difference except you don't pay the agency fees:0 Once you are in Ukraine, you are totally dependent on those facilitators. We had one that stayed in Kiev and another one in region. It will probably be the same this time too from what I've read in other blogs using our facilitator. We would have used our old facilitator, but he never answered my email and we needed to get started.

Would you mind emailing me? I would like to ask about how you did the house description and the income statement. We didn't have to do either of those last time. We just sent a deed from the county which wasn't required.

And if you have any questions, I'd be happy to see if I can answer them:)

Thanks,
June
